South down the East Coast

My parents recently celebrated retirement after finalizing the sale of their business. They took a 6 month trip across the USA in their RV. I drove the eastern visited with them during their stay in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

On the way to Florida, we stayed in Boston and Raleigh. On the way back, we stayed in Virginia Beach and Boston. The multiple days and stops allowed us to be rested and take our time along the way.

I-95 Southbound

While the Sierra was hard on gas, which averaged ~$4 a gallon, it was very comfortable. Android auto, full Wi-Fi and the AC inverter were very handy. Being able to travel freely and having the space to pack whatever we wanted was a big plus.

Our main route was the I-95 south. We switched between the I-295 and I-93 as needed.

Although we didn’t have time to enter each location, the opportunity to drive past Boston, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington was very nice.

Boston

While staying in Boston we went in search of some sought after pinball machines. I was surprised to find Roxy’s lined up out the door and down the street. People waiting in the cold and snow for pinball and arcade machines!

We managed to find some games (Mandalorian Godzilla, Rush and a Hot Wheels), at the Double Bull.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel

On the way back home we took a detour across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. The low railings on the bridges allowed for very scenic views. It was interesting to learn about the construction process of the tunnels.

We were able to stop at a scenic look off point to feed some leftovers to birds and snap a few photos.

The detour north on highways 13, 113 and 1 through Virginia, Maryland and Delaware was a nice break from the grind of the I-95.

Florida Birds

We saw some interesting birds throughout our travels. Lots of pelicans around the Cape Canaveral piers. A swan was guarding the entrance to the campgrounds. A motorcyclist with gear guided the swan back to its pond. There is a particular street where all the peacocks seem to gather. They have been gathering there for years on someones lawn.

Cape Canaveral

Although exploration tower was closed at the time, it will still neat to look at. What seemed like non-stop helicopter tours running back and forth.
